The EU corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) was today approved by the European Union parliament.
This brings the last piece in place in the ambitious EU CSRD project, part of the European Green Deal.
While implementation will be done in steps with only the largest companies requested to report in the first steps, there will be a trickle down effect and all companies supplying multinationals will sooner or later need to report with much larger transparency in their supply chain.
Supply chain due diligence is not an easy topic. Based on Scandic Sourcing's 15 year experience with code of conduct due diligence audits in Asia, things are often worse than you think and it requires a hard work with education and encouragement to set partners in the value chain in the right direction. The recommendation for everyone is to start to set things in place now, even if there are a couple of years before it might become mandatory.
